One of the greatest Mexican Wrestling Star of our generation has died. Eddie Guerrero, the former WWE Champion, has died at the age of 38 due to heart failure. What saddens me the most about this is, Eddie Guerrero has just got off years of drug and alcohol abuse 4 years ago. The guy was a changed man and has Championship belts to prove the fantastic wrestler inside and outside the ring he was.
I always have thought that after his former tag team partner in Los Gringo Locos, "The Love Machine" Art Barr died back in 1993 due to the same illness. Eddie Guerrero will live through his retirement years from the business. Sadly it isn't the case as fans that has seen him wrestled for the past 18 years are now mourning around the world about his tragic death.
We have seen this for so many years, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, Road Warrior Hawk, Shinya Hashimoto, Andre the Giant, Big John Studd, The Hercules, Louie Spicolli, Chris Candido, Miss Elizabeth, "Mr.Perfect" Curt Hennig, Malice, Plum Moriko, Art Barr, Ravishing Rick Rude, "Big Boss Man" Ray Traylor, Russ Hass along with others that I have not mentioned. Most of these guys were well known wrestling personalities that ended their lives too early. Eddie Guerrero is brand new on the list that has died way too early. I still cannot get over his death, being backstage once at a Smackdown Houseshow, and did not have a chance to talk to him, really make me feel worst.
Looking back as a huge wrestling fan of the past 20 odd years, every single time a wrestler has died, it really saddens me, no only as a wrestling fan, but as someone who has been involved, in one way or another in this business, in this industry, an industry that I have so much respect and love for. Just feel really crappy about.
Each time there is a wrestling death, most of the time it was heart failure. This year alone we have had 3 major wrestling personality that died. Shinya Hashimoto, Chris Candido and Eddie Guerrero. I even want to think who's next, Shinya Hashimoto and Eddie Guerrero were two wrestlers that I had tremendous respect for and admired greatly. I just cannot imagine being part of the Smackdown locker room right now.
I started watching Eddie Guerrero back in the 90s when he was wrestling in New Japan as the Black Tiger, I remembered watching him going up against the guys like Taka Michinoku, Shinjiro Ohtani, Chris Benoit (then-known as the Wild Peagasus), Dean Malenko, El Smaurai and Jushin Thunder Liger. At the time, the "cream of the crop" in the wrestling industry as far as Junior Heavyweights are concerned, watching him wrestling Chris Benoit in the semi-final of the Super J Cup 94 was absolutely amazing. Then later followed him in ECW, WCW and WWE, those were some amazing matches that I have seen from "Latino Heat".
The Mexican Wrestling Community will never be the same with Eddie Guerrero passed away, the Guerrero Family will never be the same without Eddie Guerrero, WWE will never be the same with Eddie Guerrero. The fans around the world will definitely never be the same without Eddie Guerrero's cheating, lying and stealing. I can sure to say I will miss Eddie Guerrero and I am sure many many others will as well.
